EV Charger Low-Voltage Integration

EV charger integration begins after separating two distinct scopes. GGIS handles network connectivity, automation, monitoring, account commissioning, supported schedules, and software integration. We do not install the branch circuit or perform the electrical design that makes EV supply equipment safe to energize.

An appropriately licensed electrical contractor must complete a formal load calculation and determine panel capacity, conductors, overcurrent protection, permits, and power connections. As coordination information, EVSE is treated as a continuous load under NEC Article 625, so branch-circuit and overcurrent sizing is not less than 125 percent of the charger's maximum load; 48 A charging therefore commonly requires a 60 A circuit. The electrical contractor applies the governing code and site conditions. GGIS uses that approved limit when commissioning supported network and control features.

What we deliver

  • Charger preselection review focused on documented networking, scheduling, monitoring, and integration capabilities
  • WiFi measurement or supported wired-data planning at the garage, driveway, carport, or parking location
  • Coordination drawing separating charger power, low-voltage pathways, mounting, and network equipment
  • Formal load calculation, branch circuit, overcurrent protection, and electrical installation assigned to the licensed electrician
  • Homeowner-controlled account setup covering ownership, credentials, notifications, and supported firmware settings
  • Charging schedules aligned with documented utility rate windows and practical vehicle departure requirements
  • Manufacturer-approved multi-charger power sharing configured only to the electrician's authorized electrical limit
  • Restricted IoT network placement and energy-data display where the charger exposes a documented interface
  • Commissioning record listing model, serial number, network identity, software, limits, and responsible electrical contractor

How we approach it

DESIGN

We confirm charger model, parking position, vehicle use, wireless conditions, utility-rate goals, automation requirements, and future charger count. The appropriately licensed electrical contractor performs the formal load calculation and specifies all line-voltage work. For coordination only, we note that NEC Article 625 treats EVSE as a continuous load and calls for branch-circuit and overcurrent sizing of at least 125 percent of maximum charger load; a 48 A setting commonly corresponds to a 60 A circuit. The electrician determines the actual permitted design, and we plan communications around that approved result.

PROGRAM

After the resident owns the manufacturer account, we establish clear charger names, current software, notifications, and supported charging windows. Multi-unit sharing is configured only for compatible products, according to manufacturer topology, and within the limit provided by the electrical contractor; two schedules are not treated as active load management. Where Control4, Savant, or another platform has a maintained interface, we expose conservative status or commands. Otherwise, the native application remains authoritative rather than relying on an undocumented control path.

INSTALL

GGIS establishes the supported data connection, places the charger on the intended network segment, labels related network ports, and assists with communications commissioning only after the electrician has completed and released the power installation. We do not install EV branch circuits, breakers, disconnects, receptacles, or hardwired EVSE. Eligible minor low-voltage work may be performed under California B&P §7048, while larger cabling scopes are coordinated with appropriately licensed contractors. Electrical settings are never increased beyond the electrician's documented limit.

TEST

After electrical release, we verify network stability, resident account ownership, application status, notifications, schedules, and available energy data. A vehicle handshake and short charging session confirm that software reports the expected state; this is an integration check, not an electrical acceptance test. We compare current-limit displays with the electrician's approved value and retain the commissioned settings. For supported multi-charger sharing, connected units are observed under available load to confirm communications and allocation behavior without changing the approved circuit design.

Frequently asked questions

Does GGIS install the EV charger circuit or breaker?

GGIS provides network, automation, monitoring, and integration services for supported chargers. Electrical design and construction, including formal load calculation, panel capacity, permits, conductors, overcurrent protection, disconnects, and charger power connections, follow the approved electrical scope. We use the approved operating limit when commissioning supported software.

Does a smart EV charger need a dedicated Ethernet cable?

Not necessarily. Many residential chargers use WiFi, and some do not provide an Ethernet port. Coverage has to be measured at the installed location through garage walls, exterior finishes, and closed doors. We review the exact model first, then validate WiFi or plan a manufacturer-supported wired path. Installing an unused cable does not improve a charger whose communications hardware cannot accept it.

Can two chargers share available electrical capacity?

Some compatible charger families provide documented group sharing that actively allocates an approved limit. The electrical contractor must first determine capacity through a formal load calculation and approve the topology and maximum setting. Two unrelated chargers with separate schedules are not equivalent because sessions can overlap. GGIS configures supported communications and sharing only after receiving the electrician's limit.

Can charging be controlled from Control4 or Savant?

Possibly, if the exact charger and software version have a maintained driver or documented interface. Automation may display status, energy information, or limited commands, but the manufacturer account remains authoritative for ownership, firmware, and safety-related settings. We do not bypass the electrician's approved current limit. Where the interface is undocumented or fragile, the native charger application is the more supportable control path.
