Shade pre-wiring must reflect the selected motor family, power architecture, control method, and treatment dimensions. Early coordination with the shade fabricator and window details prevents exposed wire and inaccessible connections.
Confirm the shade package
Identify each opening, treatment type, motor side, pocket or fascia, bracket clearance, and power requirement. Large coupled or dual treatments may have different wiring and structural needs than a standard roller shade.
- Use the motor manufacturer's current cable and topology requirements.
- Coordinate pocket dimensions, blocking, sprinkler clearance, and removable access.
- Assign a unique opening number shared by plans, wiring, and shade schedules.
Route power and control correctly
Home-run low-voltage shade cable where required and keep it clear of sharp edges and moving fabric. Provide an accessible power panel location with working clearance and ventilation. Coordinate any branch-circuit or line-voltage motor work with an appropriately licensed C-10 contractor.
- Leave a protected service loop at the specified motor side.
- Do not bury splices, power supplies, or connectors behind finished surfaces.
- Separate communications and power conductors according to code and manufacturer instructions.
Test before trim
Check cable continuity and labeling before walls close, then verify voltage and polarity under load at commissioning. Set limits only after final brackets, fabric, and obstructions are in place.
Field Note from GGIS
A wire centered over the window is often unusable. Confirm the exact motor-side exit point and pocket detail for every opening before rough-in begins.
